After over 40 years of uncertainty and immigration processing, Immigration Law & Justice Michigan celebrates the citizenship of a mother and grandmother who finally received her citizenship this week.
Milojka Miranovic came to the US over 44 years ago from former Yugoslavia. Milojka is a mother and grandmother who has had one of the longest immigration journeys of all ILJ-MI clients. Despite the amount of time since her arrival in the states, her perseverance is noticeable in her smile as she accepted her citizenship on August 26, 2024.
Milojka was assisted by ILJ-MI Staff Attorney Mary Lou Boelcke, who was proud to assist her throughout her immigration process and ultimately helped her attain citizenship.
Milojka was sworn in on Monday in US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was supported by Boelcke as well as her loving family which included her two daughters, their husbands, two grandsons and her best friend.
Milojka had company when it comes to fellow immigrants who celebrated their citizenship. She was accompanied by 78 other people from 32 different countries who were also sworn in as citizens.
Now that she can celebrate her citizenship, Milojka is looking forward to traveling and visiting family, especially visiting her mother and siblings in Montenegro which she plans to do once she attains her passport.
ILJ-MI and it’s staff would like to congratulate Milojka and her family on not only her attaining citizenship but also her tenacity to be able to continue the immigration fight after all of these years despite the obstacles she may have faced.
